Second Opinion Urology Consultation

An independent, expert urology review for patients across Leeds, West and South Yorkshire, providing clarity and confidence in your diagnosis and treatment plan.

Understanding the Second Opinion Process

There is rarely only one reasonable way to treat a urological condition, prostate cancer, kidney tumours and complex kidney stones in particular often have more than one valid treatment path, each with different trade-offs. A second opinion isn’t about second-guessing your existing team; it’s about making sure you fully understand your options, including approaches, such as robotic surgery, that may not have been discussed, before committing to a plan.

“A second opinion isn’t about doubting your existing team. It’s about making sure you’ve seen every reasonable option.”

FAQs

Will a second opinion delay my treatment?

A second opinion consultation is usually arranged promptly and is intended to inform your decision, not create unnecessary delay, for urgent situations, this is factored into how quickly you’re seen.

This is entirely your choice. Many patients do let their existing team know, which can help with sharing scans and results, but it isn’t required to book a private second opinion consultation.

Any differences are explained clearly, along with the reasoning behind them, so you can make an informed decision, including, if you wish, discussing the differing views with your original team.

Yes, as a fellowship-trained robotic surgeon, Mr Aldiwani can specifically review whether a robotic approach is a suitable option for your case, if this wasn’t part of your original discussion.
